DIY Pumpkin Floral Vase
Spruce up your Fall tablescape with this colorful and nontraditional DIY floral pumpkin vase. Create a beautiful centerpiece with these fall decor ideas.
Hey guys! It’s Bianca, an avid DIYer and I blog over at Bianca Octavia. If you are anything like me, you are obsessed with everything fall and you can’t wait to start getting your home fall-ready.
This month, I am back with a DIY faux floral pumpkin vase centerpiece for your dining tables that can be used for Thanksgiving parties, fall weddings, and can even be given as a hostess gift. Although this project may be budget-friendly, it will add an extra special touch to your autumn tablescape and without a doubt will impress your dinner guests! After all, it’s pumpkin season. Showcase pumpkins in your fall decor.
Here’s what you’ll need:
MATERIALS
- Foam pumpkin
- Pumpkin carver or sharp knife
- Scraper scoop or spoon
- Floral foam
- Faux or live flowers
- Craft paint
- Sponge brush
OK, LET’S GET DIRTY!
Step 1.
Gather your materials and find a medium-large sized foam pumpkin. If you choose to use a real pumpkin for this project, ensure that you are picking out a pumpkin with a flat surface that will stand upright on your table.
Step 2.
Use the pumpkin carver or a sharp knife to cut a deep square into the top of your pumpkin. Tug on the pumpkin stem to remove the cutout and use a scraper scoop or spoon to get the middle as clean and clear as possible.
Step 3.
Once the middle of the pumpkin has been completely hollowed, paint it your color of choice using acrylic craft paint. Allow it to dry for 15-20 minutes before moving on to the next step.
Step 4.
After the paint has dried, cut a piece of floral foam and fit it tightly inside of the pumpkin.
If you are planning to use live flowers, soak your floral foam in water until it is completely saturated. While soaking, line the pumpkin with plastic or a large Ziploc bag to prevent any water from leaking through. Set the wet floral foam into the pumpkin and trim the plastic lining.
Step 5.
Arrange your flowers in the pumpkin vase by securely placing each stem into the floral foam. Continue to fill the foam with flowers until the green surface is completely covered and you are done!
This simple project can be completed by any crafting skill level and can also be transformed throughout the fall season like Halloween.
When Halloween comes around, simply repaint your pumpkin(s) black or purple and replace your brighter arrangement with darker colored flowers. You can even place a spooky phrase on the pumpkin like “Boo!” Also, don’t feel like you have to use the traditional fall colors. Go with what you feel. I love pink and baby blue. So my fall is filled with pastels and blush. It provides an elegant look to a classic Fall item. So spice up your autumn decor with a beautiful pumpkin vase filled with your favorite floral arrangement.
Happy Fall Y’all!
