No Wire Hangers Ever! – Use It To Build a Coat Rack
Ok I don’t know about you, but whenever I see wire hangers I think of the movie Mommie Dearest, and I think why are there wire hangers in my closet LOL. I mean did I learn anything from Ms. Joan Crawford 😒.
Hahaha Ok but seriously how many of you take your clothes to the dry cleaners on a regular basis and before you know it you have a closet that’s filled with all of these wire hangers. It’s practical yes, but its not pretty. Here’s a project in which you can repurpose those wire hangers versus sending it to the landfill. Make a coat rack with those old hangers. So Here’s what you do..
Materials
- 5-6 Wire hangers
- Scrap boards cut at 23″ (For this I’m using old maple flooring)
- 2 – 1×2 at 7″
- Wood glue like DAP Rapid Fuse
- 3/4″ #8 Spax Screws
- Picture Hanging Kit
- Stain or paint (Optional)
Tools
- Drill
- Brad Nailer
- Pliers Set
First I glued the flooring together to create the backboard for the coat rack. I applied glue to groves and connected the flooring.
Allow the glue to set and attach the 7″ 1×2 to the back of the coat rack.
You can stain or paint the boards.
Secure with wood glue and the brad nailer.
Next Attach the wall hangers to the back before flipping it over and attaching the hangers.
Using the wire cutters to cut the hook from the hanger
Next screw a 3/4″ screw into the board, however not all the way. leave about 1/2 above the board.
Using the pliers wrap the hanger wires around the screw and once its fully wrapped, tighten the screw.
Space the hooks out evenly.
Once all the hooks are attached hang and enjoy.
Now channeling my inner Joan Crawford. ‘No… wire… hangers. What’s wire hangers doing in this closet when I told you: no wire hangers EVER? I work and work ’till I’m half-dead, and I hear people saying, “She’s getting old.” And what do I get? A daughter… who cares as much about the beautiful dresses I give her… as she cares about me. What’s wire hangers doing in this closet? Answer me” (Mommie Dearest, 1981). LOL ok I’m done. Till next time. ~T.
