Review of the Werner 5-in-1 Telescoping 18 ft. Reach Aluminum Multi-Position Ladder, a versatile study ladder that’s easy to use and has space-saving abilities.

Hey All, It’s ToolBox Dude! It’s early Fall and time again to do some home preventative maintenance on my house.  It’s a single-family Cape cod dwelling. I use a couple of different ladders to tackle most of the work around my Cape cod dwelling.  That means running back and forth from the storage shed and garage, lugging a ladder that meets the height requirements for that task. In a short period of time, I would have several ladders laying around the yard, a 3ft, 6ft, and 8-foot ladder to a 28 feet telescoping ladder to get on the roof if necessary. Needless to say, this is very tedious and all the different ladders take up valuable space on my garage wall and in my shed. 

It is time to make a change.  Teaming up with The Home Depot, I’m testing out the Werner 5-in-1 Telescoping 18 ft. Reach Aluminum Multi-Position Ladder. On paper, this ladder met all my needs in a single package.  The Warner 5-in-1 Telescoping 18 ft. Reach Aluminum Multi-Position Ladder has a 375 lbs. Load Capacity and is Type IAA Duty Rating.

The Test Drive

I don’t know why, but I feel like my ladders have to be able to fit over my SUV just in case I need to head out with it to work remotely. The ladder fits actually inside my Jeep Grand Cherokee – just had to fold the right back and front passenger seat down and lay the ladder flat at an angle no need for ladder rack and longer vehicle.  So that was a huge bonus.

Putting it to the Test

I removed the ladder from my vehicle and stood it upright – it is well balanced and did not topple over. I unwrapped the packaging from around it to get a closer look at its construction and to figure out how this piece of hardware works. I deliberately did not look at the manual because I wanted to see if this ladder is intuitive – kind of figure anyone on a job site could fearlessly grab this ladder and be productive.

All rivets were intact and the ladder felt solid but still light enough to move around easily – there were no defects to report.

I then took a walk through the house with it.  The narrow form of the Werner 5-in-1 Telescoping 18 ft. Reach Aluminum Multi-Position Ladder made it through the house without snagging any furniture or drapery.

The J-locks are solid – a matter of fact the product overall look and felt solid yet manageable. The J-lock did not snag as I put the ladder through its pace transforming it to a twin step ladder, then to step ladder and then to the stairway step ladder and then to extension ladder.

I tried out the scaffold base using a 4 footboard.  The actual scaffold is sold separately.  But I felt secure. It is solid and stable. It doesn’t got crazy high but it’s high enough to tackle any paint job in a room with 8 or 9-foot ceilings.  

And finally, it stores very well in the garage too.

While I think its operation is definitely intuitive I actually went back and read the manual.  Haha, I was missing a few things before I reviewed the manual.  So I strongly recommend you read the manual.

Final Thoughts 

This is a good ladder and its an excellent value being 5 in 1.  I highly recommend this foor the DIYer, homeowner, Weekend warrior and contractor/ expert.
