She Shed Styles

She-Sheds are getting more and more pins on Pinterest. If you don’t already have a Shed board, then this list is sure to get you hungry for your own ladylike abode.

Elegant

We may not have be able to have a home as grand as Scarlet O’Hara’s, but our she-shed gives our dreams of elegance new hope. Whispy curtains, dainty china, step stone pathways, and bookshelves filled with your favorite classics — it’s as perfect for tea parties and wine tastings as it is for a session of “met time.”

Cute

If you have kids in the home, then you have every reason to indulge in a tiny abode that could very become the cutest thing on the block. Virtually every she-shed is begging to be turned into a reading nook or social setting, and with the right seating, cushions, and bookshelves it can become our favorite childhood dollhouses come to life. A mini cottage with a flower garden and shuttered windows is the perfect home for a library or tea spot. Add in arbors, string lights, candles, lanterns, stone paths, and patio seating and you’ll have a miniature country home in your own backyard.

Unique

It’s always a great idea to make a fun and comfy reading zone or getaway, but don’t let yourself be limited to such ideas. Your she-shed should be designed to meet the needs of yourself and everyone in the home. Whether you could use a game room, hot chocolate bar, an itty-bitty parlor, or a funky little tree-house;  thinking outside the box will give you a special spot that compliments you and your unique needs.

Purposeful

Not everyone needs a shed that will attract awe and attention. Some of us just need a place that allows us to embrace our hobbies with a quiet and organized space. Whether you could use a craft center, an office, an art studio, a greenhouse, or a workshop; a she-shed is as worthy of tools as it is a chandelier.

Eco

Sustainable design is catching like wildfire — and for good reason. Potential trash gets recycled or upcycled, money is saved, pollutants are reduced, and everything comes together to create a unique look that can go modern, rustic, and everything in between. Eco she-sheds are being made with nothing more than repurposed windows, Craigslist doors, and reclaimed wood. Pair that with a little xeriscaping and your she-shed will be the talk of the neighborhood.

Makeshift

Building something from scratch is the surest way to create a one-of-a-kind shed. But some of us just can’t justify buying the materials with the outdated water heaters and car work that beckons our checkbook. But you can take care of bills and still have a she-rific escape! Scan Craigslist for old playhouses, and you can find a ready-made shed just waiting to be wheeled into your backyard. If playhouses are too pricey or just plain hard to come by, then find a room to give a budget-friendly makeover. An attic or a garage is the perfect candidate for a girlie getaway. Get creative with thrift store finds and things you already have laying around, and you’ll be able to make a fabulous space for pennies.

  1. Um, is there a way to hide this page from my wife to make sure she never sees it? I’ll have to build her a she shed for sure! Great tips to keep in mind when I build one for her! Hopefully, I’ll get my own man cave as well!

    1. HaHa sorry I can’t help you with that. But I’m sure your wife would totally reward you for her She Shed by allowing you to turn a space in your home to your own personal man cave. 😉 Good luck!
