How to pick the right lawn mowerWith the spring around the corner, it is finally time for lawn trimming. It is a process that has to be done several times every year, and every other week during the warmer months. For some some, mowing the lawn is very therapeutic, particularly when it comes to clearing your thoughts. There is nothing better than going out early in the morning, putting on your baseball cap or cowboy hat and just strolling down the lawn; it’s a moment of bliss. Now, depending on your budget and your personal preferences, you can chose from a wide variety of lawn mowers available. If you are having problems with which one to choose, listed below are some things to consider that’ll make you a well informed buyer and speed up the decision making process.

The size of your lawn matters

It all starts with the size of your lawn; basically, if it is small and it needs a lot of attention, you are fine by just getting a push mower for it will be enough to finish the job. On the other hand, if you have a slightly bigger lawn, you might want to get a self propelled lawn mower. The first type ranges in price around $80-200, while the latter goes up to $400. It all depends on the brand that makes them, the model and some other factors, all listed below. Also, each type has different features that come with it, therefore the difference in price. If your lawn is huge, you can always buy a riding mower and simply enjoy the smooth ride while taking care of the grass. In the end, it all comes down to your personal choice, the size of your lawn and the amount of money you can spend.

Electric or gas

These are the 2 generally used types of mowers and they both have pros and cons. As far as the electric mower goes, it can be corded or cordless. Now this is where the main difference comes: with corded model, you are restricted by the size of the cord, while with the cordless model you can easily run out of battery. Electric mowers are easier to clean and maintain in general, but offer less power compared to the gas mowers, which are a lot messier to maintain but are super strong.  Everything comes with a price: It is true that gas mowers run longer and have more power, but the cost to maintain is higher. It is also less green or energy efficient. So before buying one, make sure to do your research and fully understand both types.

Mega mowers

Riding mowers or lawn tractors are the top of the game, offering much more power and How topic the right lawn mowersustainability. Some of them are so powerful that let you attach additional attachments, such as aerators, spreaders, or snow throwers. These four-wheel cruisers are also pretty expensive, ranging from $1,500 to $5,000 and more. If this is not in your price range know that there are plenty of good deals at machinery auctions, or on sites like Craigslist.org  or OfferUP. So make sure you check them regularly for you might end up bringing home a sweet deal.

The difference matters

All of the above mentioned types have unique features and differ in price, and they are all good enough to finish the job. But it is not the same if you will be pushing a mower for two hours around the lawn or simply walking behind it while it does most of the work. This is where the difference between the  push mower and self propelled mower shows the most and the main reason why people tend to buy self-propelled mowers over the basic push mower. The self propelled mower makes walking up and down that hill in your backyard a piece of cake.  In the end, it all comes up to the size of the lawn and how much you are willing to sacrifice to keep it neat.

So before you buy a mower, make sure to check all offers and try out as many as you can in order to avoid buyer’s remorse. If it is a riding lawn mower, see if you can test it out by  taking it for a spin before purchasing it. Overall, if you are not satisfied with the one you bought, you can always return it in the short period stated in the contract or receipt for a full refund, or exchange for another one.

  1. I like riding lawn mowers but it is not necessary for my lawn since I have such a small lawn. One day when I have a bigger piece of property I will definitely be buying one! But for now, I just have an electric one that I push and it works absolutely fine for me!
