This Labor Day I’m doing two things. I’m making a huge donation to my local Salvation Army and I’m going to take advantage of the massive Labor Day sales event at the Home Depot. I’m stocking up on everything I’ll need to get my garage in order. It’s time to give my garage new life.

I’m so excited to announce that I’ve teamed up with the Home Depot to bring to you The Home Depot Labor Day Savings Event. During the Labor Day sales event, the Home Depot is offering huge savings across the entire store. During the Labor Day event, I can order a wide variety of indoor and outdoor items at low prices and opt for curbside pick up or have it delivered straight to my door. So now is the time for me to stock up on everything I need to get my garage in order.

Meet the Hoarder.

I am a hoarder. There, I’ve said it. That’s the first step is admitting you have a problem right? Hahaha OK, It is time for me to get my life in order, and being home for the last couple of months trying to stay safe and self-quarantine really helps put things into perspective. One, I realized I have way too much junk that I don’t use nor need, 2 my house and garage is a complete mess and has no formal structure. This in turn affects my productivity and my mood. I’m less creative in a messy clutter filled space. I can’t plan. I can’t move. I can’t think. And now it’s time to make a change starting in the area where I spend a lot of time creating things….my garage.

In the past, I’ve attempted to bring order and structure too many times that I care to admit to my garage. I’ve built several workbenches to help with storage needs. But at the end of the day I constantly found myself in the same situation….. I junky cluttered garage. And you know why….because I never throw anything away and I wasn’t making use of the entire space. In fact I’ve only been using one side of the garage while on the other side I stored wood, boxes with Christmas decorations, and everything else that didn’t fit in the house.

The Plan

So my plan is to take everything out. Install really sturdy shelving along the wall and organize everything into storage bins. That means I’m removing everything and only things I absolutely need and actually use will return to the garage.

I started by searching online at the Homedpot.com for the perfect shelving unit. I found these Husky 77 in. W x 78 in. H x 24 in. D 4-Shelf Welded Steel Garage Storage Shelving Units with Wire Deck in Red and HDX 27 Gal. Tough Storage Bins.

Ordering Online

These days I try to reduce my in store time as much as possible, in an effort to socially distance. I utilize the Home Depot’s website as much as I can to place orders. And honestly using the website is a really great planning tool. I simply log on to Homedepot.com from my computer or cell phone, place my order and within 4 hours or so, depending on the time of day I place my order, my order is ready for curbside pickup.

Curbside pick up is really nice when ordering large heavy items. Someone brings it straight to the car.

Operation Organize my Garage

Once I had picked up everything I was able to head back to my garage to get started on the garage.

I got a ton of bins in various sizes. And to be honest I might go back for more because these bins are freaking awesome. They are made for stacking with the interlocking lids. Also it supports heavy materials.

Setting up the shelving system took very little time. It’s an interlocking system similar to setting up a bed frame.

Making Progress

So I am off to an awesome start. I’m working my way through my garage. And the mere fact that I can see the actual floor of my garage is a miracle in itself. Stay tuned and follow along on Instagram and Facebook as I continue to tackle this space and give it new life. And let’s see what other great deals we can get on items for the home this Labor Day at the Home Depot.
