Our toolbox grows with time as new projects arise within the home.  As homeowner’s the list of projects never ends.  In fact, for me, it’s a never-ending list. And let’s face it, the right tool on hand can make all the world of a difference.  Here are 5 essential items we think everyone should invest in for their home and workshop.

DREMEL Multi-Max 3.5 Amp Variable Speed Corded Oscillating Tool Kit with Accessories and Storage Bag

An oscillating tool is a saw, a sander, and a grinder all in one. With this tool, you cut under door jams (which is very handy when installing new flooring), you can make cuts into drywall, you can remove old caulking; you can even cut into grout and sand away the old thin set after removing the tile from a surface.   The DREMEL Multi-Max 3.5 Amp Variable Speed Corded Oscillating Tool Kit with Accessories and Storage Bag is a value-packed oscillating tool.

It comes with a drywall jab saw, wood and metal flush cut blade, a hook and loop pad, 9 sanding sheets at various grit levels, and a storage bag.  The blade can be changed quickly and easily without the need for a wrench.  All you do is turn the knob to lock or unlock the attachment.  The new ‘quick-hold accessory’ interface allows for a “one-handed operation” while changing blades. The blade is held in place while the user secures it.

My favorite feature is probably the variable speed.  The speed range is from 10K to 21K oscillations per minute.

Dremel GO 4-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Cordless Screwdriver with USB Charger and Insert Bits

Excellent for lightweight work, the Dremel GO 4-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Cordless Screwdriver with USB Charger and Insert Bits is the ultimate go-to screwdriver.  Unlike the old fashion, manual screwdrivers, this cordless screwdriver gives just enough power to drive screws into threaded holes.  No need to worry about stripping screws by using a drill that is too powerful for the job.   The Dremel GO has and overdrive protection feature which prevents screw and material stripping. This ergonomic tool is 4 times more powerful than any existing screwdriver with the same size and form.

Simply push down on the Dremel Go to drive screws into the material.  The Intelligent E-clutch stops when you want it to stop.

Husky Universal SAE and Metric Mechanics Tool Set (105-Piece)

Your first thoughts may be ‘sockets and ratchets, when am I ever going to use that?’ Well, you’ll be surprised how often you’ll find yourself grabbing for a wrench or a socket and ratchet.  Imagine ordering furniture on the internet.  When it arrives, more than likely, you will have to put it together.  The “tools” that come with the assembly kit are typically not the most user-friendly.  This mechanics’ tool set comes with 66 sockets, 25 accessories, 10 wrenches, & 4 ratchets.  It has a lifetime warranty with no questions, NONE, and no receipt is required.  This you can’t beat.  It also has 100-position ratchet that can access spaces that are 40% tighter. This is no longer a toolset that is made for the auto mechanic.  This is an essential tool every homeowner should own.

Firm Grip Leather Impact Large Tan Full Grain Leather Glove

While this next item isn’t exactly a tool, it is an essential item to have in your home and workshop.  It’s the Firm Grip Leather Impact Full Grain Leather Glove.  When working on home maintenance projects and moving things around inside and outside the home, I can not stress the importance of a good pair of gloves to protect your hands.

These gloves, by Firm Grip actually fit small to extra large hands.  No “break-in” required.  They just fit, which I love.  It’s genuine leather and has a breathable double leather palm.

These gloves also provide impact protection. Best of all, no more splinters!

RIDGID 16 Gal. 6.5-Peak HP Wet Dry Vacuum with Cart

Finally, the RIDGID 16 Gal. 6.5-Peak HP Wet Dry Vacuum with Cart saved my life.  No seriously! Over the Christmas holidays, I had a real Christmas tree. When it was time to take it down, my living room and entry area was covered in needles.  There was no way my regular vacuum could handle the job.  I broke out the RIDGID 16 Gal. 6.5-Peak HP Wet Dry Vacuum and it sucked up everything like it was merely a snack. I used it on my tile floors and carpet to remove the needles.  I would still be cleaning pine needles next Christmas if it weren’t for the RIDGID 16 Gal. 6.5-Peak HP Wet Dry Vacuum.

The RIDGID 16 Gal. 6.5-Peak HP Wet Dry Vacuum with Cart is part of the most powerful line of vacuums RIDGID has ever made. Best of all this vacuum is affordably priced at $159.
