DIY Wooden Ornament with Hope, Love, Joy and Noel

DSC_0057So It’s no secret this is my favorite time of the year.  Recently I shared with you that I am participating in the 2015 Ornament Exchange hosted by Erlene, from My Pinterventures.  I was paired with Betsy from Happily Ever After, Etc.. I made her a blue marbled “glass” ornament. But the truth is I actually made two ornaments: one glass, one wooden. I mean I’m addicted to wood after all.  I couldn’t resist making something out of wood.  This ornament is very simple.

Materials

First start with a smooth piece of wood.  Take the 2×2 and smooth out using fine 220 grit sanding paper. Pay close attention to the edges.  You want to eliminate the possibility of sharp edges and splinters.

Once the wooden block is smoothed out spray it with metallic spray paint.  I’m using spray paint because it’s applied fast and dries within 20 minutes.  But you can hand paint with metallic paint.

DSC_0316  Once dry apply the alphabet stickers to the block.  The letters do not have to be the same font or style. Have fun with it and mix and match fonts. It’s up to you what words go on each side. But I went with Love,  Hope, Joy and Noel.

I’m not perfect so I had to go back and clean up my letters with a gray metallic paint marker.  Hahaha. Don’t sweat it, perfection sucks the joy out of life and the holidays.  😉 SO go with the flow.

Once dry screw in the eye ring. From this you can hang a simple ribbon or hang on a hook to place on a tree. Or simply hang it on an Ornament Hanger like this.

Enjoy and feel free to experiment with colors and words.  Express what Christmas means to you.

Till Next Time ~T.
