Hey Guys! ToolBox Dude here and Spring has sprung after what seemed like a never-ending winter.  Seriously it felt like an eternity.  But that’s all in the past. Because the days are getting longer and the trees are budding. It’s time to get the yard back in shape.

I always start Spring cleaning by pruning the trees and there are no better tools to get the job done than the Milwaukee M18 Fuel suite of outdoor tools. For this review, we are focusing on one the best brand of chainsaws on the market today, the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 16 in. 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Battery Brushless Cordless Chainsaw. I put this tiny chainsaw to the test tackling overgrown trees and cutting the fallen trunks and branches that occurred over the winter. This cordless  Milwaukee Chainsaw did not disappoint.  It offers the same power and performance as the old gas chainsaws I’ve had been accustomed to using in the past.

The Design

The Milwaukee M18 Fuel 16 in. chainsaw has an ergonomic compact form factor that is sleek and the bright color makes it visible at distance.  This tool comes with a 16 inch Oregon bar and chain, the chain is a. 043inch gauge, 3/8inches pitch chain and you get dual studs on the bar retention.

You also get a scrench onboard external but under the battery compartment towards the handle, a welcome tool to tighten or set the chain as the circumstance may dictate.

What is admirable about this chain saw is it operates as a professional mechanical saw. Meaning similar battery operated saws have release buttons on the handle that you have to press before it engages the chain. Not the M18, as long as the chain brake is disengaged it is ready to go – this is an awesome saw.

It has a variable speed trigger to give you a range of cutting control over the amount of power you apply on the wood being cut.

There is a calibrated Bar oil reservoir which shows you the volume of oil available to lubricate your chain.

The Battery

While this chainsaw doesn’t come with a battery, I paired it with the Milwaukee M18 18-Volt Lithium-Ion High Demand Battery Pack 9.0Ah. This battery offers more run time and power up to 5X more run-time and 35% more power.  This chainsaw will work with any of the M18 batteries but the High Demand battery pack allowed me to finish my entire yard with one charge.

Also, the battery’s fuel gauge allowed me to track the remaining charge of the battery while I worked.

The Performance

The saw blade is thin and cuts through green 6 to 14-inch diameter trunks and branches with ease. Its sweet spot is small to medium size tree trunks. While I haven’t tried this on a larger tree yet, I didn’t experience any sort of bogging while I cut.

I would not use this saw for major lumber jacking task, but for around the yard and cleaning up after a storm this is the tool you need.

My Final Thoughts

For such a small chainsaw in comparison to other’s I’ve used in the past, there is no question that the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 16 in. 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Battery Brushless Cordless Chainsaw is well equipped to handle the job.  It has the same power and performance as a 40 cc gas chainsaw.  This is an excellent tool for homeowners and professional landscapers for its performance and durability.  And best of all it’s compatible with any of the Milwaukee M18 batteries.   It will get the job down with speed and ease allowing you time to enjoy the beautiful Spring weather.
